A Witch Hunt?
Matthew Robinson, PhD

So, Vice President Dick Cheney says the firing of nine attorneys at the Justice Department was warranted and that any investigation into this matter is "a bit of a witch hunt." Of course, this comes from the same man who said, on June 20, 2005 (more than two years ago!) that "I think they're in the last throes, if you will, of the insurgency."  Riiiight!

With regard to the attorney firings, Cheney adds: "I think that an offer has been made" wherein senior officials would meet with members of Congress – "but not under oath, not in public, no transcript, to discuss these issues." This reminds me of the investigation by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (the 9/11 Commission) where Bush and Cheney refused to testify to the 9/11 Commission, instead agreeing only to “visit with” it but only together, not under oath, with no media present and with no recording, in a closed session, and only for one hour!

This Administration does not believe it is accountable to the American people. Bush and Cheney simply believe they are above the law and that they are beyond any questioning by normal citizens or even the members of Congress we elect to represent us.

This means we will never get any straight answers as to why qualified people were fired from the Justice Department. We will never learn the whole truth about the 9/11 attacks. And we'll remain bogged down fighting an insurgency in Iraq until who knows when?

If you’re not outraged, then I guess you’re just not paying attention.
